Word spell checking not working correctly?
Here are several things that may stop spell checking from working.
1. Hide spelling errors in this document is ticked
Go to: File > Options > Proofing
2. You can disable a style from being spell checked. To test whether this might be the case, change to another style and see if spell checking starts to work.
Go to: Styles Pane > Manage Styles > Select Style > Modify > Format > Language
3. When setting a proofing language, there is a tick box where you can set spelling not to be checked
Different areas of text can be set with their own proofing language and settings within the same document. Best practice is to select all text in the document before setting the proofing language and spelling preference.
This option is unlikely to be ticked in a Maddocks document, the setting is under the language button which isn’t displayed by default in the Word ribbon. It may be more common on non-Maddocks documents. Text copied from another document may include the language and spelling preferences of the document it was copied from.
